Rustler Park AZ
Rustler Park is my favorite campground of all time. It's on a grassy alpine meadow at 8,500 feet, with huge ponderosa pines that look like redwoods. The campsites have stone terraces built by the CCC in the 1930s. A nice day hike is along the Crest Trail or to Bootlegger Saddle, with views into Mexico. There are bears, deer and raccoons up here. To get there, drive 13 miles on Pinery Canyon Road (unpaved) from the Chiricahua park entrance. From Rustler Park you have easy (adn spectacularly scenic) access to Cave Creek (birds) and the Southwestern Research Station. The scenery is amazingly varied.
